Within The Dome

To care entirely for oneself, the prospect is seductive.
It can ensnare you in with clasping hands,
And afford you no way to escape its grasp.

Sometimes the wall is encased around one’s inner self.
You may believe you have allowed trusted friends
To explore within, but the wall has proven to have no end.

Yet it is within one’s own borders that sinister prospects haunt.
You can hide from shadows in the sun’s light,
But darkness always prevails come night.

With a wall that guarantees no entry, it’s more of a dome.
Shadows roam inside your precious sanctuary,
And yet you cower within, unable to enjoy fully.

If only the unassailable dome could crack just a bit.
Maybe the light would shine through,
And scatter the fear that prevails inside you.

Still, the world continues at the mercy of the clock.
If the wall cannot be chiseled down,
Time will continue to spin right around.
